John Roos is a Full Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame.  He is also active in teaching and advising in the Minor in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.  He is the author of numerous articles and monographs in Political Science and Applied Public Policy.  His monograph Bench Marking South Bend (2010) analyzes the economic structure of the local region, offering options for economic development.   He has published a variety of articles including articles on Flannery O’Connor, Roberto Ungar and Aquinas, Congressional Reform, Campaign finance and Local Government Reform. He is currently working on a book on Political Themes in Flannery O’Connor. In 2009 he completed an inventory of the papers of Notre Dame Professor Gerhart Niemeyer, which is available at the Notre Dame Archives.

Professor Roos is a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has won the Sheedy Award for best teacher in the College of Arts and letters, the Joyce Award for outstanding teacher, and was the first winner of the Dockweiler award for mentoring undergraduate students.

He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and has received Notre Dame’s Presidential Award for service to the University Community.
