Donald P. Kommers
(A.B., Catholic University; Ph.D., University of Wisconsin, 1962) Joseph and Elizabeth Robbie Professor of Political Science and Professor of Law, specializes in American and comparative constitutional law and jurisprudence. He also teaches and writes in the field of German politics. His books include American Constitutional Law: Essays, Cases, and Comparative Notes, 2nd ed., The Constitutional Jurisprudence of the Federal Republic of Germany, 2nd ed., Introduction to Comparative Government, 5th ed., Germany and the Basic Law, and Judicial Politics in West Germany. His essays and articles on constitutional topics also appear in numerous books and professional journals. He edited The Review of Politics from 1981 to 1994. In addition to major fellowships he has received from the Rockefeller Foundation, Max Planck Society, National Endowment for the Humanities, and German Marshall Fund of the United States, he recently won the Alexander von Humboldt Prize for Senior U.S. Scientists. In 1998, Germany's Heidelberg University awarded him an honorary doctor of laws in recognition of his scholarship in German and comparative constitutional law.
