Frances Hagopian
(B.A., Brandeis College; Ph.D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1986) is Faculty Fellow of the Kellogg and Kroc Institutes. She specializes in the comparative politics of Latin America, with emphasis on democratization and the political economy of economic reform in Brazil and the Southern Cone. Her current research focuses on economic liberalization and political representation in Brazil , Argentina , Chile , and Mexico . She is co-editor (with Scott Mainwaring) of The Third Wave of Democratization in Latin America, and the author of Traditional Politics and Regime Change in Brazil, which was named a Choice outstanding book in Comparative Politics, as well as several articles on democratization which have appeared in World Politics, Comparative Political Studies, and in other journals and books. She has held fellowships from the Center for Latin American Studies and the Howard Heinz Endowment of the University of Pittsburgh , the Social Science Research Council and the American Council of Learned Societies, and Fulbright-Hays. She has previously taught at Harvard and Tufts Universities and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
