Michael J. Francis
(B.A., Fort Hays State University; Ph.D., University of Virginia, 1963) Professor Emeritus, he is also a fellow of the Kroc Institute and the Kellogg Institute. He works in the area of international relations with a concentration on Latin American affairs. He has served as assistant provost for International Studies, the director of the Latin American Area Studies Program and Chair of the Department of Political Science. He was awarded research grants from the Social Science Research Council and the University Consortium for World Order Studies. In 1982 he won the University's Madden Award for outstanding teaching of First Year students. He is the author of The Limits of Hegemony, The Victory of Allende and numerous academic articles.
