Scott Mainwaring
Scott Mainwaring is Eugene Conley Professor of Political Science and Director of the Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He previously served as Chair of the Department of Government and International Studies (1996-97). His books include The Third Wave of Democratization in Latin America: Advances and Setbacks (Cambridge University Press, forthcoming, co edited), Democratic Accountability in Latin America (Oxford University Press, co edited, 2003), Christian Democracy in Latin America (Stanford University Press, co edited, 2003), Rethinking Party Systems in the Third Wave of Democratization: The Case of Brazil (Stanford University Press, 1999); Presidentialism and Democracy in Latin America (Cambridge University Press, co edited, 1997); Building Democratic Institutions: Party Systems in Latin America (Stanford University Press, 1995, co edited), Issues in Democratic Consolidation: The New South American Democracies in Comparative Perspective (University of Notre Dame Press, 1992, co edited), The Progressive Church in Latin America (University of Notre Dame Press, 1989, co edited), and The Catholic Church and Politics in Brazil, 1916-1985 (Stanford, 1986). He has published articles in The British Journal of Political Science, Comparative Politics, Comparative Political Studies, Studies in Comparative International Development , and many other journals in the United States , Latin America , and Europe . He received a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellowship in 2000 for work on a project on authoritarianism and democracy in Latin America, 1945-2000.
