Sotirios A. Barber
( B.A. University of Illinois ; Ph.D. The University of Chicago , 1973) Professor of Political Science, combines interests in political philosophy and the American Constitution.(B.A. University of Illinois 1963; Ph.D. The University of Chicago, 1973) He is the author of: The Constitution and the Delegation of Congressional Power (Chicago, 1975); On What the Constitution Means (Johns Hopkins, 1984); The Constitution of Judicial Power (Johns Hopkins,1993); Welfare and the Constitution (Princeton, 2003), and , with James Fleming, Constitutional Interpretation: The Basic Questions (Oxford, 2007; a Choice Magazine “Outstanding Academic Title for 2008”). With Robert George, he is the co-editor of Constitutional Politics: Essays in Constitution Making, Maintenance, and Change (Princeton, 2002). With Walter Murphy, James Fleming, and Stephen Macedo, he is co-author/editor of American Constitutional Interpretation (Foundation Press; 4th edition, 2007). He has also published numerous articles in constitutional theory. He has held fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Council of Learned Societies. He has taught at the University of South Florida and held visiting professorships at Princeton University and the University of Michigan. He is presently (as of October, 2009) writing books on theories of American federalism and constitutional failure.
