Rev. William M. Lies, C.S.C.
(B.A., Saint John's University; M.Div., University of Notre Dame; Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh, 2002), executive director of the Center for Social Concerns, and associate professional specialist of political science, specializes in Latin American politics, religion and politics, public policy, and political parties. He is also a fellow of the Kellogg Institute for International Studies. His present research focuses on the growth of Pentecostalism in Latin America and its impact on the Catholic Church's relationship to the state. He is currently working on a book manuscript on Chilean church and politics, along with several papers for presentation and publication. As head of the Center for Social Concerns, he also gives his time to community-based learning throughout the university; the Center for Social Concerns is one of the most comprehensive service and experiential learning centers in higher education, with a wide array of courses, publications and conferences inspired by Gospel values and Catholic social thought.
