How can I find a summer internship?
The Department of Political Science office has handouts and books with information but most information is now available on the internet. Please see "Links to Summer Internships" below. Extensive information on paid and unpaid summer internships is available in the Career Center and at http://careercenter.nd.edu/. Career Fairs, Internship Fairs and informational meetings held throughout the academic year are also excellent sources of information.
When should I start applying for a summer internship?
It is best to begin in the fall semester because searches can be time consuming, applications can be lengthy and deadlines can be as early as October 1.
What will I need to apply for a summer internship?
Applications can consist of a resume, a cover letter, statement of interest, letters of recommendation and transcripts.
Are summer internships available in South Bend?
Yes, most local agencies that accept interns during the academic year also accept interns during the summer. Those agencies are listed in the Fall & Spring section of this page.
Can I get academic credit for a summer internship?
Credit for summer internships is optional. Please refer to the "Requirements for Credit" section below for complete details.
Do internship credits apply towards the Political Science major requirements?
No.

No, internships are graded Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory.
Do summer internship credits apply towards overloads?
No.
How many weeks and hours must I work?
To qualify for academic credit interns must work at least 80 hours over a minimum of four weeks.
How can I find housing for a summer internship?
Some sponsors provide information on rentals or you can contact local universities about summer housing facilities.
