The Varieties of Democracy project (V-Dem) has broken the concept of democracy down into hundreds of specific concepts, which it has now measured for several dozen countries over more than a century. Such detailed data make it possible for the first time to "drill down" into general notions of democracy to reveal their components and sub-components. Kellogg Faculty Fellow Michael Coppedge, one of the V-Dem principal investigators, will give a guided tour of V-Dem data for selected countries, starting at the most general levels and moving down …
