Book Launch: "A Saint of Our Own"

Kathleen Cummings (Notre Dame), George Weigel (Ethics and Public Policy Center) and Ken Woodward (former Newsweek, Notre Dame ‘57) discuss Prof. Cummings’ new book about St. Elizabeth Ann Seton called A Saint of Our Own: How the Quest for a Holy Hero Helped Catholics Become American. Event is free and open to the public.

About the panelists:

Kathleen Sprows Cummings is the William W. and Anna Jean Cushwa Director of the Cushwa Center for the Study of American Catholicism at the University of Notre Dame. She is also professor of American studies and history at Notre Dame, and an affiliated faculty member in Gender Studies, Italian Studies, and the Nanovic Institute for European Studies. Cummings’ new book, A Saint of Our Own: How the Quest for a Holy Hero Helped Catholics Become American, was published in April 2019. 

George Weigel is an author, political analyst, and social activist. He currently serves as a Distinguished Senior Fellow of the Ethics and Public Policy Center. Weigel was the Founding President of the James Madison Foundation. He is the author of the best-selling biography of Pope John Paul II, Witness to Hope and Tranquillitas Ordinis: The Present Failure and Future Promise of American Catholic Thought on War and Peace. In addition, Weigel is a frequent contributor to First Things magazine.

Ken Woodward was religion editor at Newsweek for 38 years, retiring in 2002. He is the author of several books, including most recently Getting Religion: Faith, Culture, and Politics from the Age of Eisenhower to the Ascent of Trump.
