Radical Equality: The Case for A More Intersectional Future for Gender Equity in Global Politics

-

Location: C103, Hesburgh Center for International Studies

Ellerby
Featuring Kara Ellerby, Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Relations, University of Delaware

This lecture will first outline how a lack of intersectionality in discourse and measures of gender equality permeate today's peacebuilding and development efforts, often reinforcing inequality. Ellerby will then explore how re-engaging feminist ideas about identities and justice can offer more robust and promising measures of equality for a more emancipatory future.

Kara Ellerby's research interests focus on global gender equality policy, global gender norms, gender and security, African post-conflict peacebuilding, and feminist international relations. Her book, No Shortcut to Change: The Unlikely Path to a More Gender Equitable World (New York University Press) was the 2018 Winner of the Victoria Shuck Award from the American Political Science Association for best book on women and politics.

This event is part of the Kroc Institute's Intersectionality and Justice initiative
