This lecture will first outline how a lack of intersectionality in discourse and measures of gender equality permeate today's peacebuilding and development efforts, often reinforcing inequality. Ellerby will then explore how re-engaging feminist ideas about identities and justice can offer more robust and promising measures of equality for a more emancipatory future.
Kara Ellerby's research interests focus on global gender equality policy, global gender norms, gender and security, African post-conflict peacebuilding, and feminist international relations. Her book, No Shortcut to Change: The Unlikely Path to a More Gender Equitable World (New York University Press) was the 2018 Winner of the Victoria Shuck Award from the American Political Science Association for best book on women and politics.
