Lecture by 5th Circuit Judge Kyle Duncan: "Free Speech and Legal Education in Our Liberal Democracy"

Judge Kyle Duncan of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit will visit Notre Dame on Friday, March 24 to deliver a lecture titled “Free Speech and Legal Education in Our Liberal Democracy.” The event is co-sponsored by Notre Dame’s Center for Citizenship and Constitutional Government, the Notre Dame Law School’s Federalist Society Chapter, and the Federalist Society Freedom of Thought Project.

Judge Duncan’s lecture will take place at 12:30pm (EDT) in DeBartolo 155. In-person attendance is open to the Notre Dame, Holy Cross, and Saint Mary’s community (campus ID is required). Admission is free, and takeaway lunch will be available. No backpacks will be permitted at the lecture.

Stuart Kyle Duncan received his B.A. from Louisiana State University in 1994, his J.D. from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 1997, and his LL.M. from Columbia Law School in 2004. 

Duncan served as Appellate Chief for Louisiana's Attorney General's office from 2008-2012. From 2012–2014, he served as general counsel of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. Before becoming a judge, Duncan practiced at the Washington, D.C. firm of Schaerr Duncan LLP, where he was a founding partner. He was appointed by President Trump to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit on May 1, 2018.
