Video: Meet Political Science Major Monica Torres

Author: Todd Boruff

“The thing that I like the most about political science is to be able to analyze things that are going on in our world right now and that are really relevant to our lives and what’s going to happen in future generations,” says Monica Torres ’14, a political science and Arabic major from Winter Springs, Fla.

Torres, a senior in Notre Dame’s College of Arts and Letters, is concentrating her studies on the politics of the Middle East and North Africa. She spent last summer studying in Amman, Jordan, through the University’s Summer Language Abroad Program and she is currently working on a senior thesis concerning the Arab Spring. She is also a candidate for the 2013-2014 Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Bahrain.

Torres enjoys the well-rounded nature of her political science major, which she says encompasses more than she expected.

“I feel that all the components of my major really prepare me for whatever job or whatever path I would choose to pursue in the future,” she says.
