Emma Schroeder
Biography
Emma Schroeder is a fifth year Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at the University of Notre Dame. Her fields of study are American Politics and Methodology. She received her Masters degree from Notre Dame in August 2023. Emma's research focuses on gender in American Politics, with a particular focus on legislative institutions. In additional work, she examines voter preferences for vice presidential candidates, women's ambition for local office, and the effect of Covid-19 on women's publishing. Her work can be found in academic journals like Politics, Groups, and Identities and PS: Political Science and Politics.
Her dissertation examines how increases in the number of women in state legislatures influence legislative behavior. Specifically, she studies how increases in the number of women in U.S. state legislatures impact women's and men's bill sponsorship, effectiveness, and cosponsorship, as well as the content of the legislation they work on.
Before coming to Notre Dame, she earned a B.A. in political science from Loyola University Chicago and served as an intern at the Brookings Institution and the Ohio House of Representatives.
