Biography

Gabrielle Grow is a third-year Ph.D. student in constitutional studies and political theory and a Notebaert Premier Fellow at the University of Notre Dame. Her dissertation will examine the history of agrarianism in American political and constitutional thought, touching on themes such as virtue and progress. She is also interested in the decline of social capital in Western democracies, and to this end has pursued research on liberal/communitarian debates and the relationship between religion and liberal constitutionalism. In addition to her theoretical work, Gabrielle is currently leveraging her quantitative skillset to analyze the effects of disestablishment on religious engagement in the early United States, a project supported by the Notre Dame Democracy Initiative.

Before coming to Notre Dame, Gabrielle worked at the University of Chicago for economist Dr. Steve Levitt, where she completed research projects related to agriculture and K-12 education, among other issues. She received her BA (with honors) in Public Policy from Stanford University. In her spare time, Gabrielle enjoys mentoring Notre Dame undergraduate business students alongside her husband, Nathan, and spending time on her family farm.
