Biography

Elayne Allen Schwalbach is a 4th year doctoral student in political theory and constitutional studies. Her dissertation explores the political authority of customs and their relationship to natural law, with a particular focus on Thomas Aquinas’ thought. Elayne is also interested in legal philosophy, Catholic political thought, and feminist theories. In the Spring 2026, she won the Notre Dame Political Science Excellence in Teaching Award for her work with undergraduate students. Elayne is also the Editorial Intern for the Review of Politics for the the 2026-2027 academic year. She earned her BA from Baylor University in 2017, where she studied political philosophy and great texts.
