Fields of Study: American Politics

Sandra has a BS in the Honors Program at Idaho State University. Her research centers on identity politics and political behavior. More specifically, she is interested in unpacking Latina/o/x identity and how it interacts with political structures and institutions in the US. In graduate school, she plans to explore how identity shapes and constrains political behavior, voting, and representation. She has conducted research on Latina/o/x identity and support for co-ethnic candidates, the politics of immigration, and DACA. Sandra has presented her work on “‘Drug Dealers, Criminals, Rapists’: The Influence of Fear and Risk on Support for Immigration Policy” at the Midwest Political Science Association and at the McNair/SSS Scholars Research Conference.
