Andrew C. Gould

Biography

Andrew C. Gould writes on European politics, religion and politics, political culture, the political-economy of decision-making, and qualitative research methods in comparative politics. Gould is the author of Origins of Liberal Dominance: State, Church, and Party in 19th Century Europe (University of Michigan Press). His journal articles have appeared in West European Politics, Studies in Comparative International Development, and the Review of Politics. His chapters have appeared in Critical Junctures and Historical Legacies: Insights and Methods for Comparative Social Science (Rowman & Littlefield), Regimes and Democracy in Latin America: Methods and Applications (Oxford University Press), The Annual Review of Political Science, and in his co-edited book Europe’s Contending Identities: Supranationalism, Ethnoregionalism, Religion, and New Nationalism (Cambridge University Press). He holds an A.B. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. He previously taught at the Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington, Seattle.
