Tyler Castle is a Ph.D. student in Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, with concentrations in constitutional studies and political theory. He is also a David Solomon Fellow with the deNicola Center for Ethics and Culture at Notre Dame. His research focuses on liberal democracy and political moderation, exploring the philosophical grounding for both within the Christian intellectual tradition. His current research draws on the thought of Augustine, Blaise Pascal, and Alexis de Tocqueville.

Before coming to Notre Dame, Tyler spent eight years at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) in Washington, DC, where he served as director of its Initiative on Faith & Public Life and contributed to the institute’s broader efforts to improve the quality of political discourse on college campuses. In addition to overseeing dozens of student and faculty programs during his time at AEI, he played a lead role in the development of a variety of educational resources—including essay compilations on economics and morality and the future of liberalism, as well as a feature-length documentary on Christian engagement in contemporary American politics entitled “For Love of Neighbor: Politics for the Common Good.”

Previously, Tyler was a fellow with the John Jay Institute and received his B.A. in Political Science from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA.
