Areas of Interest: modern political theory, Christian political thought

Elayne Allen is a first year PhD student in political science at the University of Notre Dame concentrating in political theory and constitutional studies. She is interested in studying the ways that knowledge and understanding are transmitted, preserved, developed, and changed in modern societies. She also plans to study the conditions, presuppositions, habits, and institutions that are most conducive to political wisdom and virtue in political communities. Her other interests are Christian political theory, feminism, education, progressivism, and conservativism.

Previously, Elayne was the managing editor of Public Discourse, an online journal that publishes longform essays on culture, politics, ethics, religion, and philosophy. While there, she reviewed submissions; solicited contributions; and provided substantive, structural, and copyediting to most essays. Prior to that, Elayne worked as a research assistant in the Social, Cultural, Constitutional Studies department at the American Enterprise Institute. Elayne has published essays and op-eds in a variety of outlets such as Time, City Journal, American Purpose, Law & Liberty, The American Interest, and Breaking Ground.

Elayne earned her B.A. in political philosophy and great texts from Baylor University, and she is an alumna of the John Jay Institute and Hudson Political Studies program.
