Beyond the Classroom

I truly believe my Political Science major has offered me incredible opportunities to immerse myself and grow as an intellectual. The department's resources have been foundational in diversifying my interests, finding my passions, and engaging with a driven group of peers.

Experiential learning in political science bridges the gap between classroom learning and practical application. Through opportunities outside of the classroom, our students gain hands-on experience that enhances their understanding of the major. These opportunities allows students to explore their interests, improve skills, and provide work experience employers seek:

Beyond the Dome

Beyond the Dome, an Arts & Letters exclusive program, is dedicated to helping the students in the college through what Beyond the Dome calls the “career discernment” process. The program is made up of multiple tools and systems that help students find their post-college career in a low-stress way. Political Science undergraduate students are strongly encouraged to get involved with Beyond the Dome to start their career search early.

Funding and research

As undergraduates in the College of Arts & Letters, students have the funding and support to make their research projects happen. Students can conduct original research, assist faculty members with their research, and plan and execute year-long senior thesis projects.

Internships

Students who intern during their undergraduate years are better prepared for job interviews, have references from the business world, have explored possible careers, and are more competitive when applying for jobs. We encourage students to enhance their academic careers by interning during the academic year or summer.

Internships provide opportunities to:

  • Practice your interviewing skills.

  • Apply your academic skills in the workplace.

  • Explore careers.

  • Meet professionals in your field of interest.

  • Gain valid work experience before graduating.
